The INTAKE Organization (Instrumentally Native Taking on the Classics) is a youth development and arts education organization, founded in 2011. INTAKE’s mission is to improve the quality of life for underserved children, largely from immigrant families, by providing access to quality classical music education through the use of native instruments that represent the community’s diverse cultural backgrounds. INTAKE’s innovative flagship program, the Native Instrument Academy, utilizes instruments indigenous to Latin American and African countries, as well classical instruments, to make music relevant, accessible and inclusive, while leveraging the skills gained through engaging in the arts, such as discipline and self esteem, to improve the lives of the children we reach. The organization’s recent accomplishments include being named a finalist in the 2016 National Youth Arts and Humanities Program awards, by First Lady Michelle Obama and the President’s Committee or Arts and Humanities.
